Why a trust membership will make you an explorer...
21 December 2015 / Outdoors
If you count yourself as an ‘Explorer’ (and what dedicated Vogel’s lover doesn’t?), then membership of a Trust could be right up your woodland trail.
The National Trust’s the obvious one. They’ve got 10 good reasons for joining. ‘Time travel’ and becoming an ‘Amateur Attenborough’ among them. Any idea of dusty old houses is blown away when you realise there are nature reserves, castles, woodlands, coastal cliffs and even gold mines to discover. As well as the UK’s best big houses of course.
For the Foodie in you, the Trust not only offers Farmers Markets around the country, but also flags up fun events like mushroom hunts. Can’t you just picture the melting butter and pile of shaggy ink caps on a slice of Soya & Linseed?
English Heritage is another incredible organisation. Palaces, abbeys, Roman forts and deserted medieval villages are yours to explore with membership. The Woodland Trust also invites you to ‘discover the world on your doorstep’. There are so many more woodlands in easy reach of our cities than you’d ever guess. ‘Celebrity trees’, some thousands – yes, thousands! – of years old can be visited and you can even add your own discoveries as part of their ‘ancient tree hunt’ .
If ‘Keep Exploring’ works for you, then you’re going to love what our national treasure trove of Trusts has in store!
